Alright iPhone fans, Apple has just unveiled the fifth generation iPhone. Sorry to disappoint you folks, it’s not the iPhone 5 but the iPhone 4S. Apple once again took the previous path of upgrading the iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS first before jumping to iPhone 4.
So, what does the iPhone 4 has to offer? There are four highlights of the new features of iPhone 4S
- Dual-core A5 Chip
- Dual-core graphics
- 8MP camera with autofocus, tap to focus, face detection, LED flash, 1080p video recording, video stabilization
- SIRI voice assistant
Of course, the iPhone 4S will be running on iOS 5 and there’s also the iCloud feature which will go live on October 12. Design-wise, the iPhone 4S will sport the same design as the current iPhone. Nothing will be changed.
The iPhone 4S is available for pre-order on October 7 and will start shipping on October 12 for the U.S. and some major countries. The second batch of release will be on October 22 and will include 22 more countries including Singapore. Unfortunately, our beloved Philippines is not on the list of countries which will get the iPhone 4S on its second release. Perhaps, on the third batch which according to Apple will get the iPhone 4S before the year ends.
The question now is, do the features of the iPhone 4S enough reason to purchase the device? Here’s my take on this. If you own an iPhone 4, upgrading to iPhone 4S is not practical. In 6-8 months, Apple is going to launch the iPhone 5 which will definitely look different than the iPhone 4. With iOS 5 coming for iPhone 4, you’ll probably get most of the features of the iPhone 4S soon. I don’t know about you, but when I upgrade a phone, I make sure that the upgraded version is totally different from my current phone in both the inside and the outside. Unfortunately, the iPhone 4S is the same as the iPhone 4 in the outside.
If you are still using the iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G, then the iPhone 4S is a worthy upgrade for you.
But of course, it will also depend on how far of an Apple fan are you.
